Bentworth Garden Club

I cannot believe that we have visited our last gardens for the year. We have been so incredibly spoilt in what we have been able to see.

In July by kind permission of the Macpherson’s we visited Armsworth Manor, near Old Alresford. A truly special garden, the weather was kind to us and we all had a lovely time wandering around her garden. The “hot bed” was amazing and it was lovely to hear about the history of the house itself.

In August we were off to see two gardens in Bentworth. Church Cottages owned by the Costigans and the Red House, owned by the Bairds. Luck was on our side once again. We started off at Church Cottages, where, with a glass of wine we meandered around Jane and Tony’s spectacular gardens. The beds were immaculate and everything looked incredible. Completely put my garden to shame! From there we crossed over the Village Green and descended into the Baird’s garden. The pleached crab apple screen was a sight to behold, as were Gillian’s dahlias,. The beautifully pruned topiary was also fantastic. Even the donkeys came out and showed their appreciation!

On behalf of all of us in the Garden Club, I would like to thank Rogge’s, Macpherson,’s. Costigans and the Baird’s for being so unbelievably kind and generous in allowing us to come and visit. You are all stars.

Sarah Whitley
