Bentworth Fete 2019

The Bentworth fete was held on a sunny July 6th on the school field and once again we were delighted with the number of visitors who all helped to make the day a great success.

The sun shone, the church bells rang to announce the start and the school cheerleaders did an excellent routine to open the fete. It was great to have a number of new stalls this year with Laser Shoot, Village Green Recycling and Hula Hoops to name a few. There was also some friendly competition between the PCC cake stall and new for this year the Burton family cakes and Cosmo and Rafe’s cakes, all of which were very tasty and a huge amount of work went into the making of all their goodies– thank you to all the bakers.

The Wield Glenn Miller Tribute band added a really fun atmosphere to the day and many people stayed listening to them for ages, having beer, Pimm’s and burgers from the nearby bars and BBQ. The feedback has been really positive with everyone really enjoying their performances. It was great to see all the members really getting into it and giving it their all, can’t wait to see them again!

Unfortunately there are too many people to name individually but thanks must to go to everyone who helped before, during and after the fete. To all the stall holders who manned the stalls, Jean for the excellent dog show, Julian for the dog racing, both of which were enjoyed by dogs and humans alike! To Lorna for organising the raffle which raised a huge amount and to all those who made things and donated bottles, books, cakes, bits for the raffle and silent auction and also to everyone who attended. Also to Dave and Mick on the BBQ, who had probably the hottest job of the day, the burgers were delicious!

Thanks also to Jenny Lewis who once again was excellent as the “Voice of the Fete” keeping everyone up to date with what was happening, encouraging people to visit the stalls and generally keeping the event moving.

We are delighted to let you know that with your help we have been able to donate£4,450 to local good causes and charities, these are:

  • St Mary’s Bentworth Church
  • Bentworth Cricket Club
  • Riding for the Disabled
  • Southern Domestic Abuse
  • St Mary’s Bentworth School
  • The Care Group
  • The Villager
  • Cardiac Risk in the Young
  • Bentworth Harvest Supper
  • Elkolet

We know that these donations make a great difference to the lives of a number of local people and we are proud to be able to support these good causes and charities.

Looking forward to next year, the fete committee will be holding a meeting towards the end of February to determine whether or not there will be a fete in 2020. If you want to have a fete next year it is vital that you attend this meeting. It takes planning and a bit of time to put on an event like this every year and recently it has been harder to find volunteers prepared to give some time. Without your help there is a real possibility that there might not be a fete next year. Further information about this meeting will be supplied nearer the time.

Finally, many thanks to all the committee members for their help in bringing everything together, you did an excellent job. The fete is a really worthwhile village event and hopefully it will continue next year.
