Bentworth Village Coronation Celebrations – Sunday 7 May 2023

There were a few nervous days of wondering if it would rain on our parade, but the sun decided to show it’s face just in time for the villagers to celebrate the coronation of King Charles 111.

The villagers all gathered on the school playing field to celebrate this momentous occasion in style, with gazebos galore and even a candelabra adorning a picnic table! Chris Lovett ran the bar, serving Pimms, English fizz and beer, a keg of which was kindly donated by Megan and David from the Sun Inn. Besides the adult refreshments, we had cream teas catered by Debbie Spencer-Jones, absolutely delicious, and ice creams for all. Lucy Dean provided some lovely music and our thanks must go to John Stockdale for his assistance with the PA system and bar gazebo.

The event kicked off with a Royal fancy dress parade and best dressed was Wilf Dunnett, well done for your great outfit. Next came the children’s games which allowed them to run about and participate in various activities, organised by Sarah Strang-Steel and her band of helpers. The parents even got into the spirit of it with their own race! Commemorative coronation medals were handed out to all of the participants.

Another highlight was the Treasure Map draw organised by Suze Dunnett. Each villager had the opportunity to buy their house on the grid and win one of the fantastic prizes on offer. We had donations from Hampshire Framing Workshop, JB Garden Services, Dream Clean Ovens, Rebecca James Yoga, Bennetts Home Shine, Willow and Sage Florist and a number of bottles of wine and champagne donated by villagers. Thank you all so much for your most generous support. Thanks must also go to Suze Dunnett for all your hard work in twisting arms and organising the draw. In total we raised £874.50, all of which will go back into the village.

Finally thanks must go to all the villagers that joined in with the celebrations and the volunteers that made this event happen – a great success enjoyed by all.
