Our talk this month was entitled, ‘Making people laugh and cry with verse’ by Mr David Bryant. Mr Bryant, a very smart gentleman dressed in a suit with his remembrance poppy nattily sported on his lapel, turned out to be a bit of a stand up comedian as well as a poet and raconteur. We were first treated to a few jokes, some slightly near the knuckle, before we heard the first poem. This was acknowledging the amount of medication we all seem to take in later life. We were all chuckling heartily by now. All the poems were written by Mr Bryant who proceeded to entertain us further by using dialects to match the poems. So we had ‘The Dragon’ in a Welsh lilt, followed by American and Northern accents for relevant ditties. ...
