What a marvellous spring. The best blossom I have seen for years. I love the big magnolias, cherries and camellias in the garden but if you have a smaller plot you need to find something else. There are small magnolias. Magonlia stellata with white star shaped flowers will make 5 ft, while Susan a deep pink will make 6ft. Both easily available. For Cherries you can go very small with prunus incisa Kojo no mai to 3 ft or pick a columnar shape of tree such as Amanogawa with pale pink flowers. Remember cherry roots spread far near the surface. ...

In that time they have become part of the village community, and, were there one, Sano would win the cup for church yard cutting! They have been devastated by the news of the earthquake which has killed their sister, relations and friends, and wiped out their village. Lyra Concert

How blessed I was on Thursday 30 April to have been present at St Mary’s Church, Bentworth, for a concert given by Lyra – a group of four young Russian singers from St. Petersburg. Most of what they sang was unaccompanied and I soon realised that with voices such as theirs, no accompaniment was needed. One seized the impression that what they sang they thoroughly enjoyed and truly believed in. The church resounded to the sound of angels and I certainly hope Lyra can make a return visit. ...
