Supporting the Nepalese Disaster Fund

Mina and Sano came from Nepal to work at Lasham House seven years ago. In that time they have become part of the village community, and, were there one, Sano would win the cup for church yard cutting! They have been devastated by the news of the earthquake which has killed their sister, relations and friends, and wiped out their village. Eve Pein decided to have a coffee morning and bring and buy sale to raise funds to help. ...

Lyra Concert

How blessed I was on Thursday 30 April to have been present at St Mary’s Church, Bentworth, for a concert given by Lyra – a group of four young Russian singers from St. Petersburg. Most of what they sang was unaccompanied and I soon realised that with voices such as theirs, no accompaniment was needed. One seized the impression that what they sang they thoroughly enjoyed and truly believed in. The church resounded to the sound of angels and I certainly hope Lyra can make a return visit. ...

The whole school marked the 70th anniversary of VE day with a day of remembrance and celebration. We were particularly lucky to be joined by many of the pupils’ grandparents, one or two of whom were able to share their own memories of VE day itself. Having spent the morning in class with the children, and some sharing a school lunch, the grandparents and other family and friends were treated to an afternoon of fabulous maypole dancing. ...
