Neighbourhood Watch

Please can I draw your attention to a recent report we have received. A member of public has reported to Police they have been having callers selling cleaning items at the door. On one particular occasion they bought items and a cheque was made out to pay for these items.

On checking their bank statement the cheque, before it had been paid in had been altered for a larger amount. The bank did reimburse the account holder on this occasion.

The best action to take is not to buy on the doorstep. EHDC do have stickers free of charge that can be placed on the outside of your door to inform any caller that you do not buy items on your door step. To obtain these please contact HCC in Winchester: The Castle, Winchester, Hants, SO23 8UJ, or phone 0300 555 1375. Police are also aware that sometimes these notices are ignored by callers. If the caller is persistent even though you have refused and pointed out the notice then please call Police on 101 and make us aware of the problem.
