Harvest Picnic

Harvest Picnic

It was amazing how many folk arrived for the picnic on 21st October. Obviously the third time of holding this event meant that word had got around and a great evening ensued.

A glass of bubbly on arrival certainly helped to get everyone in the mood. Then the dinner began….everyone brought their own and there were some sumptuous feasts laid out.

The chatter stopped to listen to Julian Lewis telling us about the farming year. It is always a pleasure to listen to Julian because we always learn something new about what goes on around us in Bentworth.

There was a mercifully short general knowledge quiz, with a box of chocolates for the winning table. The charity of the evening, for which everyone was asked to put a £5 note in an envelope, was The Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation and an astonishing £515 was raised. The lucky draw was won by Gillian Baird and she will enjoy a dinner at The Sun, kindly donated by Lee and Sian.

The very attractive decorations on the tables and the stage were provided by Stella Strachan. They were taken home by those who were keen to enjoy them further. Thank you to George Whitley for masterminding the evening, with help from Cathy Bolsover, Charlie Phillips, Tony Brooking and your correspondent. We would appreciate any ideas for next year’s Harvest Picnic, if anyone would like to suggest how we can improve on the formula.
