Thank You

Church The Villager

Kathryn and I both were very touched by the wonderful final service, lunch and many kind comments made afterwards, either in Ian Jurd’s generous speech or to us in person. It was a great delight to see so many there and to be able to spend time chatting with you all. Many thanks to Patrick Busby and Ian Jurd for bringing Patrick’s piano to the party, and for Patrick’s playing. Thanks also to Steve Clarke for setting up and operating the sound system – if only the microphone had decided to play ball! Thank you to all those who prepared and brought all the food, it made for an excellent meal. We are both grateful, too, for your generosity in our farewell gift. Ben, who is a keen wildlife photographer, is putting his share towards a powerful zoom lens for his camera; Kathryn, who wishes to continue to help both children and adults with specific learning difficulties, is putting her share towards purchasing those diagnostic materials which, hitherto, have been available through school. ...

Services During the Interregnum

Church The Villager

The service pattern during our months without a resident priest will remain as unchanged as possible. However, visiting priests will need to be found, and all are paid, so we hope to be able to maintain the essentials – a Eucharist (BCP) at St Mary’s at 8am on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, and the 11am Parish Eucharist. There will be no midweek Eucharist – anyone wishing to go to a weekday service would be very welcome at Alton Abbey – their worship is usually at 9am. If you need transport do ring me – 562126. ...

Letter from the Rectory

Church

Dear Friends Have you ever been tempted? I came across this the other day. After starting a new diet I altered my drive to work to avoid passing my favourite bakery. I accidentally drove by the bakery this morning and as I approached, there in the window were a host of chocolates, donuts, and cheesecakes. I felt this was no accident, so I prayed … “Lord, it’s up to You. If You want me to have any of those delicious goodies, create a parking place for me directly in front of the bakery.” And sure enough, on the eighth time around the block, there it was! ...
