Change of Leadership of Bentworth Care Group
News of change!! As from 15th January 2018, (at the Annual General meeting of the Care Group) “Fred” Moir is relinquishing her leadership of the Care Group. Before I go any further, please be assured that the Care Group will certainly be carrying on, but under slightly different arrangements.
The Care Group was first started by several villagers in 1989, who realised that there was a need for people who don’t have access to a car to get to medical appointments. “Fred” Moir took on the role about 22 years ago, and has made the decision to “step back”, but still continue as a driver. We in the Care Group thank “Fred” very much for the time, dedication and effort she has put in to the Care Group over the last 22 years. Our sincere thanks, “Fred”.
For those of you who are possibly new to the village, or really don’t know what we do, here is a brief outline of what facilities are available to the village from the Care Group. Firstly, we are NOT carers, but are willing to drive villagers who do not have access to a car, or are unable to drive for any reason, to medical appointments. We ask for a nominal fee to cover the running costs of the driver’s car. We have of a list of about 18 drivers, who agree to go on an annual rota. There are 3 of us on the rota per month, which means that we drive 2 months in the year. If somebody can’t drive, the person needing transport phones the next person on the rota. The names of those driving, and their phone numbers are always in the monthly Villager.
We accept that some of us are “getting on a bit”, (me included) and we are always happy to have new drivers. If you have time to spare, this is a very much appreciated service by villagers. Sometimes if there is a “minor crisis” at home, and we aren’t available to drive, our other halves help, and drive. The Care Group would be happy to have any gentleman driver, who can offer some of his time. The requests for driving vary very much each month. Sometimes there are very few, sometimes about 10, and even sometimes more. On average about 80- 100 per year.
One existing member of the group has volunteered to take on the running of the group, but will willingly step back, if someone else volunteers. The venue for the monthly meeting, on the first Monday at the beginning of the month at 10.30 a.m. will vary, with different members hosting the morning. The venue will be put in the Villager each month, with a list of who is available to drive.
Finally our sincere thanks to “Fred” for her stalwart stint over the last 22 years.
