Lyra Concert

How blessed I was on Thursday 30 April to have been present at St Mary’s Church, Bentworth, for a concert given by Lyra – a group of four young Russian singers from St. Petersburg. Most of what they sang was unaccompanied and I soon realised that with voices such as theirs, no accompaniment was needed. One seized the impression that what they sang they thoroughly enjoyed and truly believed in. The church resounded to the sound of angels and I certainly hope Lyra can make a return visit. ...

The whole school marked the 70th anniversary of VE day with a day of remembrance and celebration. We were particularly lucky to be joined by many of the pupils’ grandparents, one or two of whom were able to share their own memories of VE day itself. Having spent the morning in class with the children, and some sharing a school lunch, the grandparents and other family and friends were treated to an afternoon of fabulous maypole dancing. ...

At the AGM on the 5th May all the Councillors were returned uncontested. David Hawes was voted through as Chairman once again with Veronica Parker as Vice Chair. The rest of the Council returning are Jenny Lewis (Environment & Website), Abbey George (Young People), Chris Hurley (Traffic & Highways), Paul Mellish (Planning, Finance & Communications) and Tony Costigan (Planning) who has also been elected as our Borough Councillor. DH will sit on the Finance Advisory Group along with VP. VP will oversee Broadband and also be part of Planning. ...
